These events will be held alongside three rounds of the Pro Motocross Championship sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing:
- May 30 – Hangtown Motocross Classic, Rancho Cordova, California
- July 4 – RedBud National, Buchanan, Michigan
- August 8 – Ironman National, Crawfordsville, Indiana
What is SMX Next?
SMX Next is a comprehensive program designed to develop amateur motocross talent by combining Scouting Moto Combine events with Supercross competitions hosted by Feld Motor Sports. The program culminates in the SMX Next World All-Stars event during the SMX World Championship™ Playoffs.
The 2025 season officially kicks off this Saturday at the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship round in Glendale, Arizona, which will host the first SMX Next – Supercross event of the year.
A Groundbreaking Opportunity for Young Racers
According to Jim Perry, Program Director for the Scouting Moto Combine, the initiative has been instrumental in shaping the next generation of motocross athletes.
“SMX Next continues to be one of the most groundbreaking initiatives in the sport’s history, significantly aiding in the skill development of young talent. The Scouting Moto Combine is a key part of this success, expanding to three events in 2025 to provide more opportunities for racers to compete at the highest level,” said Perry.
How the Scouting Moto Combine Works
Each Scouting Moto Combine event takes place on Friday, the day before the respective AMA National race. These combines bring together 25 top amateur racers, many of whom have proven themselves in major AMA amateur competitions, including the prestigious Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s.
Expert Coaching & Training
At the Combine, young riders receive mentorship and coaching from legendary racers, including AMA Hall of Famer Broc Glover and former champions like Chad Reed. These experienced professionals provide valuable insights into professional racing, covering:
- Race strategy and technique
- Health, fitness, and nutrition
- Media engagement and public speaking
Manufacturer Support & Fan Interaction
The selected 25 riders are determined in collaboration with leading motocross manufacturers, including GASGAS, Honda, Husqvarna, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki, Triumph, and Yamaha. Participants also get to experience the energy of race day with a special parade lap in front of thousands of fans on Saturday.
Rising Stars from SMX Next
Many past participants of the Scouting Moto Combine have transitioned successfully to the professional level. The program’s most successful graduate to date is Haiden Deegan, the reigning SMX World Champion and defending Pro Motocross 250 Class Champion.
Recently, at the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship in Anaheim, California, three SMX Next graduates dominated the 250SX Class podium:
- Haiden Deegan (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing) – 1st place
- Julien Beaumer (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) – 2nd place
- Cole Davies (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing) – 3rd place
Beaumer, who won his first career race just two weeks ago, currently leads the 250SX West Region standings.
The Future of Amateur Motocross
With an expanded Scouting Moto Combine program and a growing number of graduates making an impact in professional racing, SMX Next continues to play a vital role in developing the next generation of motocross stars. The 2025 season promises exciting opportunities for young riders to showcase their talents on the biggest stages in the sport.
